MyCryptoProtocol (MCP), also known as Model Context Protocol, is an open protocol designed to standardize interaction between large language models (LLMs) and external data sources, tools, and services, particularly within the crypto ecosystem. It functions as a framework connecting AI agents with crypto services, enabling seamless interaction across trading, DeFi, governance, and social platforms.

MCP addresses the fragmentation issue in integrating large language models with external data sources and tools. By providing a standardized interface, it allows AI applications to connect more reliably and efficiently, eliminating the need for custom connectors. This standardization simplifies agent-to-service interaction, boosting accessibility and scalability in AI integration with crypto services.

MCP creates a bridge between AI applications and data. MCP servers connect to data sources and tools (like digital storage or communication platforms), and MCP clients, run by AI applications, connect to these servers. Once permission is granted, the AI application discovers available MCP servers and can use these connections to read information and and take actions. For example, an AI assistant could use MCP to connect to a digital storage service to read meeting notes or to a calendar to schedule meetings.

MCP is purpose-built for AI contexts, unlike general web APIs like REST or GraphQL. It is designed for situations where the primary consumer is an AI system, offering benefits such as forward-compatible protocols and native AI context understanding. In contrast, REST/GraphQL often require manual adaptation for effective AI integration.

MCP is model-agnostic. It can be used to wrap rules-based engines, data enrichment services, task-specific command-line interface tools, and even non-AI microservices. The key requirement is that these systems must take structured input and return structured output, allowing for broad applicability beyond just large language models.

Key features include an MCP Registry Layer for accessing curated AI agent backends, agent-based execution using natural language processing, modularity and interoperability with various blockchain systems (including different chains and off-chain systems), and governance-ready tokenized curation and incentive mechanisms. This enables standardized interaction across trading, DeFi, governance, and social platforms.
