The State Bank of Pakistan has officially permitted banks to open accounts for licensed VASPs and their customers. This is the end of an 8-year ban on banks doing any form of business with any type of crypto related business. This new policy effectively lifts the ban on providing banking services to virtual businesses and asset holders that have been in place since 2018 due to regulations prohibiting interaction with cryptocurrencies and other types of businesses in this sector; therefore, this policy change replaces eight years of restrictions placed on banks involving the provision of services related to cryptocurrencies.<h2>A Shift Toward a Formal Crypto Regulatory Framework</h2>In March, the Virtual Assets Act was passed into law, marking the first major change to the legal framework surrounding digital assets since they became common in 2008.
