Zenon employs a dual-coin economy to separate governance and security from utility. ZNN is used for consensus, governance, and securing the network; it is required to run validators (Pillars) and is distributed as rewards. QSR acts as the "fuel" or collateral needed to spawn network infrastructure like Sentinels and Pillars. This synergy ensures long-term sustainability by requiring QSR to unlock ZNN earning potential, which prevents wealth concentration and ensures the network remains decentralized.
Zenon is often described as a Bitcoin-centric smart contract platform. Its primary goal is to provide a highly scalable, feeless environment for decentralized applications on native Bitcoin. The network is designed to leverage Bitcoin’s Proof-of-Work as a "root of trust," effectively tapping into Bitcoin's security to finalize transactions on the Zenon ledger. This interoperability allows Zenon to function as a powerful extension for the Bitcoin ecosystem.
The Network of Momentum (NoM) uses a unique dual-ledger system that combines a Block-lattice for speed with a Meta-DAG for global consensus. Instead of paying traditional gas fees common on other smart contract platforms, users "fuse" QSR to generate "Plasma." As long as a user has sufficient Plasma, their transactions are effectively free. This architecture allows the network to scale efficiently while allowing users to retain their collateral.
Pillars are the network's validators that produce blocks and vote on-chain; they require 15,000 ZNN and a QSR burn to operate. Sentinels are archival nodes that provide security links, requiring 5,000 ZNN and a QSR lock. Users who do not wish to run hardware can participate as Delegators by supporting a Pillar with any amount of ZNN to earn a share of that Pillar's rewards.
Following the philosophy of Bitcoin, Zenon was launched by an anonymous team that prioritizes development over marketing. The project is highly active and governed by the community through Accelerator-Z, an on-chain treasury. Because there is no central authority, development is funded by the community; anyone can submit a proposal to build on the network, and if the Pillars vote to approve it, the contributor is paid in ZNN and QSR.
