WPAY is the native governance and operational token for the Wirex Pay network, a decentralized payment infrastructure incubated by the global digital payment platform Wirex. The primary role of the WPAY token is to facilitate the decentralized governance of the network. Individuals who run nodes help validate transactions and maintain the infrastructure, receiving incentives for their contribution to the network's decentralization. Technologically, Wirex Pay utilizes Polygon Zero-Knowledge technology to offer high transaction efficiency, privacy, and scalability. This allows the network to handle significant transaction volumes while keeping costs low. The token itself is an ERC-20 asset, ensuring compatibility with the broader Ethereum ecosystem and various decentralized applications. A key feature of the Wirex Pay ecosystem is the Wirex Pay Card. This is a self-custodial debit card that allows users to spend their digital assets directly at millions of merchants globally. Unlike traditional crypto cards that may require users to give up control of their private keys to a central provider, this solution emphasizes user sovereignty by allowing individuals to maintain control of their funds until the moment of purchase. It is important to distinguish WPAY from WXT, which is the utility token for the main Wirex app. While WXT focuses on user-end benefits like fee discounts and loyalty rewards within the app, WPAY is specifically dedicated to the governance and infrastructure of the decentralized Wirex Pay payment chain.
