VCRED is a decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol that functions as an artificial intelligence-powered liquidity layer for on-chain perpetual futures order book exchanges. Its primary goal is to provide broader access to sophisticated trading strategies, which are typically confined to specialized quantitative trading firms. The platform allows users to deposit single-sided liquidity into smart contract vaults. These deposits enable users to earn yield from complex, automated market-making strategies that are carried out by the project's proprietary artificial intelligence models. The AI and generative AI models employed by VCRED analyze various market data, including order book depth, trade flow, and social media sentiment, to dynamically manage liquidity positions and optimize for profitability. The VCRED ecosystem generally involves at least two types of tokens. One is a native governance and utility token, also referred to as VCRED. Holders of this token can participate in decisions regarding the protocol and can stake their tokens to receive a portion of the performance fees generated by the liquidity vaults. The other is a liquid vault token, often specified as vCRED (lowercase 'v'). This vCRED is designed as a crypto-backed, yield-bearing stablecoin, intended to maintain a 1:1 peg with USDC. It is issued to users when they deposit USDC into a vault, and its value is designed to increase as the vault generates yield. This vCRED stablecoin is also described as a USD-pegged, debt-backed stablecoin native to the Hemi L2 network, where its treasury deploys proceeds into yield strategies to defend its peg and grow reserves. VCRED has operated on various blockchains, including Arbitrum and Avalanche, and has integrated with decentralized exchanges such as Hyperliquid. The project evolved from an initial concept in 2021 as a flash loan-based protocol on Avalanche before shifting its focus to its current AI-powered liquidity provision. VCRED has secured a seed funding round and built a network of investors and partners. Separately, there is also a "Virtual Credit" token, also identified as VCRED, created by Spacechain (SPC) and governed by a small Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO). This particular VCRED is an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain, intended to approximate a USD-pegged token for vendor payments, and its peg is maintained through DAO Treasury Management without being reserve-backed.
