USP is the primary token of the Piku ecosystem, designed as an appreciating stablecoin. Unlike traditional stablecoins that aim to stay exactly at a fixed peg, USP is yield-optimized. It begins with a set amount of backing but is designed to grow in value as it captures yield from underlying assets. While it is backed by dollar-equivalent assets, it functions as a digital savings vehicle where the token value reflects the original principal plus accrued interest generated by the protocol’s internal strategies.

The protocol employs a mechanism where 90% of all generated yield is channeled back into the USP backing pool. This process increases the intrinsic value of each token over time. Because the backing pool grows relative to the circulating supply, the value of USP can rise above its initial starting point. This allows the token to appreciate as yield accumulates from various protocol activities, providing a different utility compared to standard stable-value assets.

The yield is primarily generated through two distinct channels. First, the protocol utilizes FX Arbitrage, involving delta-neutral trades that capture spreads in various global markets. Second, the protocol allocates a portion of the backing to audited DeFi lending protocols and liquidity pools. By focusing on delta-neutral strategies, the protocol aims to maintain stability and generate returns regardless of broader market volatility, ensuring the backing remains robust even during fluctuations in the crypto market.

Security is a top priority for the Pi Protocol. The ecosystem has undergone audits by reputable firms such as Omega Security, 0xMacro, and Hats Finance. To manage market risk, the protocol utilizes delta-neutral strategies designed to minimize directional exposure to major assets. This approach aims to ensure that the backing pool remains stable or grows even if the wider crypto market experiences a significant downturn, protecting the value of the underlying assets.

PIKU is the native governance token for PikuDAO. Holders can stake their tokens to receive sPIKU, which grants them voting rights within the ecosystem. Governance participants influence key decisions, such as selecting the specific strategies used to back and generate yield for USP. Additionally, the protocol has announced plans for a PIKU distribution to reward early USP holders and active community participants, fostering a decentralized management structure for the ecosystem.

It is important to distinguish the Pi Protocol’s USP from other projects with the same ticker. It is entirely separate from an older Avalanche-based stablecoin that suffered a major hack in early 2023. Furthermore, while the project was founded by Reeve Collins—a co-founder of a major global stablecoin issuer—it is not an official product of that specific company. This USP is a distinct yield-optimized asset focusing on integrated interest generation through the Piku ecosystem.
