USDCx is a stablecoin issued via Circle's xReserve, maintaining a 1:1 backing by USDC. It operates natively on the Stacks blockchain as a SIP-010 token, bringing a reliable dollar-pegged asset to the Bitcoin Layer 2 environment. It serves as the official representation of USDC on Stacks, integrated directly for enhanced functionality.

USDCx is fully backed on a 1:1 basis by USDC, which is held in Circle's xReserve. This direct backing ensures its stability and peg to the US Dollar. The xReserve acts as a secure custodian for the underlying USDC, providing transparency and reliability for the issued USDCx on the Stacks network, thus guaranteeing its value.

USDCx aims to infuse stable, interoperable dollar liquidity directly into Bitcoin's leading Layer 2, Stacks. Its core purpose is to facilitate diverse Decentralized Finance (DeFi) use cases, providing a stable medium for transactions and value transfer without the need for traditional third-party bridges, wrapped assets, or liquidity fragmentation, thus enhancing the native Bitcoin economy.

The bridging process for USDCx leverages Circle's xReserve and the Stacks attestation service. When depositing, USDC is sent on Ethereum, and an equivalent amount of USDCx is automatically minted on Stacks. For withdrawals, USDCx is burned on Stacks, and USDC is settled on Ethereum. This secure process is facilitated by Circle's infrastructure, ensuring seamless cross-chain asset movement. Developer tools for integration are planned for Q1 2026.
