Unlike standard wrapped assets that require a centralized custodian to hold the underlying collateral, Swingby utilizes its Skybridge protocol. It employs Multi-Party Computing (MPC) and Threshold Signature Cryptography (TSS) to enable a decentralized network of Metanodes to manage the bridge. This architecture aims for a trustless experience where no single entity controls the assets.
Users can facilitate swaps through the official bridge interface to move native assets between supported blockchains. The process involves generating a unique deposit address through the protocol. Once the native asset is sent to this address, the decentralized network of Metanodes processes the transaction, providing the corresponding wrapped asset on the destination chain.
Metanodes are the backbone of the Swingby network. They require a significant stake of tokens to participate in the TSS signing process, which secures the cross-chain movements. In exchange for providing this infrastructure and processing transactions, Metanode operators earn a share of the fees generated by the bridge swaps.
The V3 iteration introduced a mechanism where 25% of the fees collected from bridge swaps are used to buy back tokens from the open market. This protocol-driven initiative is designed to support the internal ecosystem and create consistent demand proportional to the actual transaction volume processed by the bridge.
