It allows users to stake their ATOM tokens, earn staking rewards, and receive stATOM in return, which can then be used in various DeFi applications to unlock liquidity and explore additional yield opportunities.
The primary benefits include maintaining liquidity while staking ATOM, continuous earning of staking rewards, and increased flexibility to use the staked asset in DeFi protocols (e.g., lending, providing liquidity, yield farming) without waiting for unbonding periods. This effectively turns your staking position into a "DeFi Lego brick."
Traditional ATOM staking locks up your tokens, making them inaccessible until an unbonding period (typically 21-25 days) is complete.
