USDT0 is an omnichain extension of Tether's USDT, built using LayerZero’s Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard. It acts as a unified liquidity layer, particularly within the Stargate Finance "Hydra" upgrade, allowing for seamless cross-chain utility while maintaining a consistent asset structure across all supported networks.

While USDT0 may appear to function like a wrapped token, it is technically an Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT). Standard wrapped tokens usually rely on a central vault on one chain to hold collateral. In contrast, USDT0 utilizes a "burn-and-mint" mechanism. When you move USDT0 between chains, it is burned on the source chain and minted on the destination chain. This maintain a unified supply and avoids the centralized point of failure often found in traditional bridge vaults.

Users can convert their standard USDT into USDT0 using the Stargate Finance interface or the dedicated conversion portal. Once converted, the asset can be moved across various supported networks, which currently include Rootstock, Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Mantle, and Soneium. The bridging process typically takes between 2 and 20 minutes, depending on the network congestion and the specific finality requirements of the blockchains involved in the transaction.

Security is a top priority for the USDT0 ecosystem. The smart contracts have undergone extensive technical audits by leading security firms, including OpenZeppelin, ChainSecurity, Guardian, and Paladin. Furthermore, the project is backed by a substantial bug bounty program of up to $10 million hosted on Immunefi to incentivize the discovery of potential vulnerabilities. While the protocol includes certain administrative roles for contract updates, these multi-layered security measures are in place to protect user funds against bridge-related risks.
