Renzo Restaked WBTC (ezBTC) is a liquid restaking token (LRT) that represents a user's restaked position on EigenLayer, backed by Wrapped Bitcoin (wBTC). It is part of the Renzo Protocol, which aims to simplify and manage Actively Validated Services (AVS) strategies for LRTs on the Ethereum and Solana networks.
Users can deposit wBTC into a vault within the Renzo Protocol to receive ezBTC. This ezBTC then secures AVSs within the EigenLayer ecosystem, generating restaking rewards on top of the BTC exposure. The protocol optimizes rewards and provides a mechanism for users to maintain liquidity while participating in restaking.
Holding ezBTC allows users to earn staking and restaking rewards simultaneously. Rewards distribution for ezBTC includes auto-compounding, where a portion of rewards is automatically added back to the user's ezBTC position, and claimable rewards on a monthly basis. This enhances the overall value proposition for holders.
As with any crypto investment, there are risks involved. A key risk for Renzo Protocol's LRTs, such as ezETH (similar to ezBTC), is market risk. The value of ezBTC could be susceptible to price fluctuations, and a significant depegging event (where ezBTC's value deviates from its underlying asset) could lead to liquidations. The total value locked in protocols can also be overestimated due to the recursive nature of leveraged staking.
Deposits involve connecting an Ethereum wallet, accepting Renzo's terms, entering the desired wBTC amount, and confirming the transaction. It's important to note that rewards stop accruing once a withdrawal is initiated.
