The 1:1 airdrop migration from PKT Classic (PKTC) to the new token on the Base Layer 2 blockchain concluded its final stage on August 20, 2025. PKTC refers to the legacy coins mined during the 2019–2024 era, while PKT is the current utility token. Since the migration window has closed, users can no longer claim tokens via the original Migration Dashboard or by signing messages from legacy CLI and Electrum wallets.

PKT has transitioned from Proof-of-Work to a Stake-to-Earn model. To earn yields, users lock their tokens on the official dashboard and pair their stake with an Infrastructure Node. This DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure) approach requires node uptime to generate daily rewards. Users can access yield multipliers of up to 4x by committing to long-term staking or maintaining high node reliability. Additionally, an affiliate program offers a bonus for those using referral codes during the staking process.

Traditional mining has been completely phased out following the transition to the Base Layer 2 network. The PacketCrypt bandwidth-hard Proof-of-Work algorithm is no longer used to secure the main project. Owners of specialized hardware, such as the PKT Cube or Mini Mine, can no longer use these devices for mining. However, these devices can often be repurposed as Infrastructure Nodes or utilized for bandwidth-sharing to support the decentralized media network's ecosystem.

The Network Steward (NS) is a unique treasury address that receives 20% of all daily rewards to fund ecosystem development and project growth. Stakers participate in governance through weekly democratic elections to select the custodian of these funds. To maintain efficiency and decentralization, the project employs a deflationary mechanism where funds not utilized by the Network Steward within 90 days are automatically burned. This ensures the treasury remains active in supporting the network's decentralized infrastructure.

PKT serves as the utility token for a Decentralized Media Network powered by the cjdns protocol. This encrypted mesh protocol enables global bandwidth sharing, streaming, and content distribution without centralized intermediaries. A core feature of this network is the Cloud ISP concept, which allows users to virtualize internet service provider operations. By utilizing PKT, participants contribute to a decentralized physical infrastructure (DePIN) that aims to democratize internet access and data transmission.
