On the other side of the marketplace, lenders can provide liquidity to earn yield. The native utility and governance token of this ecosystem is PINE. It serves several core functions within the protocol. Holders can use the token to participate in governance through PineDAO, allowing the community to vote on protocol upgrades and parameters. The token system includes variations such as vePINE, which is obtained by staking PINE to gain voting power and incentives, and sbPINE, a soul-bound non-transferable token that acts as a membership proof for specific ecosystem benefits. Practical utilities for the token include a feature called auto-rollover, which allows borrowers to automatically manage and extend their loans using their PINE holdings. Additionally, the token can be used to receive fee discounts or waivers on the platform. Partners who wish to integrate or white-label the protocol technology are often required to hold a certain amount of the token to gain access to technical support and official integration. The project operates across multiple blockchain networks, including Ethereum and Polygon, to enhance capital efficiency and lower transaction costs for users. Beyond standard lending, the protocol has introduced innovative features such as Pine Now Pay Later, which allows individuals to purchase NFTs using leverage. The ecosystem also includes a community component known as PineDAO and has expanded into its own NFT collections to further integrate with its user base. Additional features like the Pine Bond have been introduced to help scale protocol operations and ensure consistent liquidity for the ecosystem tools.
