OriginTrail is a decentralized ecosystem building a trusted knowledge infrastructure for AI and real-world assets. Its purpose is to organize, share, and verify real-world data across various blockchains, enterprises, and AI systems, combating misinformation and ensuring data provenance. Founded by Žiga Drev, Tomaž Levak, and Branimir Rakić, and launched in 2018, it initially focused on supply chain tracking, now expanding its scope significantly.

OriginTrail operates via its core technology, the Decentralized Knowledge Graph (DKG). The DKG functions as a global, blockchain-verified knowledge base connecting data from diverse sources like companies, institutions, and IoT devices. This ensures shared data is authentic, traceable, and tamper-proof by linking knowledge assets to blockchain anchors for verification. The DKG is multi-chain, operating across networks like Ethereum, Polygon, and Gnosis, and integrating with its own Polkadot parachain, evolving into NeuroWeb. Node operators stake TRAC tokens to host and validate data, ensuring network self-sustainability and integrity.

OriginTrail has diverse real-world applications requiring high data integrity. These include Supply Chain & Logistics, where it verifies goods' origin and movement for transparency; Artificial Intelligence, providing structured, trusted knowledge to prevent AI misinformation and improve training data; Real-World Assets (RWAs), tracking asset provenance and compliance for tokenization; and Credentials & Identity, used for verifiable academic credentials and KYC systems. It has seen adoption by organizations like BSI, Swiss Federal Railways, and has been involved in EU and UK government projects.

The TRAC token is the native utility token essential for the OriginTrail ecosystem's operation. Its primary uses involve publishing and updating knowledge assets on the DKG, as users need TRAC for these actions. It's also used for staking by node operators as collateral to secure the network and ensure honest participation, earning them rewards for providing data services. TRAC covers fees for various network operations, such as computation and storage, and incentivizes network participants to provide accurate and timely data.

TRAC has a fixed maximum supply of 500 million tokens. There is no mechanism for minting new tokens beyond the initial allocation, ensuring scarcity. Approximately 401 million TRAC tokens are currently in circulation. The design specifically avoids token inflation, maintaining the fixed supply characteristic.

The OriginTrail ecosystem utilizes two main tokens: TRAC and the OriginTrail Parachain Token (OTP), which is transforming into NeuroWeb. TRAC is the primary utility token for core DKG operations, including publishing, discovery, and staking. OTP (NeuroWeb) is designed to facilitate transactions, serving as gas fees on the OriginTrail Parachain, incentivize DKG adoption, and enable community governance. These two tokens work synergistically to drive network effects and create value within the comprehensive ecosystem.
