The Oasis Network is a Layer 1 blockchain protocol designed for privacy, scalability, and versatility, focusing on open finance and a responsible data economy. It prioritizes confidential smart contracts and enables secure data sharing. The network combines fast transaction processing, low transaction costs, and a robust architecture to support Web3 applications, including DeFi, GameFi, NFTs, and the Metaverse.

The ROSE token is the native cryptocurrency of the Oasis Network, serving several key functions. It is used to pay for transaction fees, especially in privacy-focused ParaTimes. Token holders can stake ROSE to participate in the Proof-of-Stake consensus, secure the blockchain, and earn rewards, contributing to network security. Additionally, ROSE holders can participate in network governance, proposing and voting on changes, upgrades, and parameter adjustments, with voting power tied to their staked amount.

The Oasis Network achieves privacy through confidential smart contracts and its unique architecture. It incorporates Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) technology, which acts as a virtual black box. Encrypted data enters the TEE, is decrypted, processed, and then re-encrypted before exiting, ensuring data privacy during computation. This innovative approach allows for new use cases where sensitive data can be securely utilized by applications on the network, which would typically be risky on other Layer 1 networks.

The Oasis Network features a modular, layered architecture with two main components. The Consensus Layer is a scalable, high-throughput, and secure Proof-of-Stake layer operated by decentralized validator nodes. The ParaTime Layer hosts many parallel runtimes (ParaTimes), which are replicated compute environments with shared states. This separation enables parallel transaction processing, achieving high throughput (around 1,000 transactions per second), and offers flexibility. Each ParaTime can be tailored for specific needs, including confidential computing.

While Oasis Network, like other blockchains such as Ethereum, supports smart contracts and dApp development, it primarily differentiates itself by prioritizing confidential smart contracts and ensuring data privacy during processing. It offers an Ethereum-compatible ParaTime (Sapphire) that integrates support for the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) but delivers superior performance and lower gas fees. Oasis aims to overcome common blockchain challenges, including high transaction fees, low throughput, and the lack of built-in privacy.

Staking ROSE involves locking up tokens to contribute to the network's security and earn rewards, typically received approximately every hour. There is a 14-day lock-up period when staking and a 14-day unbonding period when unstaking, during which tokens are not transferable and do not earn rewards. While the Oasis Network controls the staked ROSE tokens, users can maintain self-custody with compatible wallets. Validators face slashing risks if they are offline too long or engage in double-signing.
