The Autonity Network uses two native tokens: Newton (NTN) and Auton (ATN). NTN acts as the staking token, crucial for network security. Auton (ATN) serves as the utility token for transaction fees and is engineered for low volatility, resembling a stablecoin pegged to a weighted currency basket. Additionally, NTN can be used as collateral to borrow ATN via Collateralized Debt Positions (CDPs).
Staking on Autonity involves bonding NTN tokens to validator nodes to secure the network and earn rewards. When NTN is bonded, it's conceptually "burned," increasing the validator's stake. Stakers can either self-bond if they own a validator or delegate their NTN to another validator. Rewards, comprising Auton (ATN) and Newton (NTN) inflation, are distributed to stakers whose validators contribute to the consensus committee.
Liquid Newton (LNTN) is Autonity's liquid staking token. When NTN is delegated for staking, LNTN is minted, representing the staker's share of the delegated assets and their entitlement to staking rewards. LNTN is validator-specific and can be transferred, offering liquidity to otherwise locked staked assets. To convert LNTN back to NTN, an unbonding period is required.
Newton (NTN) has a maximum supply cap of 100,000,000 tokens. Of this, 40 million NTNs are specifically allocated for inflation rewards. These rewards serve to incentivize stakers and validators, which is crucial for ensuring network security and decentralization. The inflation emission follows a deterministic schedule that decreases over time, promoting long-term sustainability.
