Neon EVM is an Ethereum Virtual Machine implemented as a smart contract on the Solana blockchain. Its main objective is to enable developers to deploy Ethereum-compatible decentralized applications (dApps) on Solana with minimal code changes. This integration allows dApps to leverage Solana's high throughput capabilities and significantly lower transaction costs, combining the familiarity of Ethereum's development environment with Solana's performance advantages.

Neon EVM functions by wrapping Ethereum-like transactions into Solana transactions, which are then processed on the Solana network. It's compiled into Berkeley Packet Filter bytecode, allowing it to execute transactions on Solana while adhering to Ethereum's rules. A key feature is its ability to support the parallel execution of transactions, unlike Ethereum's sequential model, which can potentially achieve up to 4,500 transactions per second (TPS) by utilizing Solana's architecture.

NEON is the native utility token of the Neon ecosystem and functions as an SPL token on the Solana blockchain. Its main utilities include acting as the payment mechanism for gas fees, where users pay NEON to Neon Proxy operators for transaction execution. Additionally, NEON holders gain governance rights, enabling them to participate in the Neon DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) by voting on proposals and submitting new ones to shape the future development of the Neon EVM ecosystem.

When a user initiates a transaction on Neon EVM, they pay NEON tokens to a Neon operator. The operator then converts this into a Solana transaction, paying SOL to the Solana validator for network processing, and a platform fee to the Neon DAO Treasury. The NEON payment from the user covers these underlying costs, as well as providing a commission for the operator's services. Transaction fees are specifically split 50% to Solana Validators and 50% to the Neon DAO Treasury.

Neon EVM offers significant advantages for Ethereum dApps by enabling them to leverage Solana's robust infrastructure. This includes access to remarkably low gas fees, potentially as low as 0.000015 SOL per transaction, and substantially higher transaction throughput compared to traditional Ethereum. Furthermore, it maintains compatibility with familiar Ethereum developer tools like MetaMask, Remix, Hardhat, and Truffle. This allows developers to port their existing projects with minimal effort, accessing Solana's benefits without rebuilding from scratch.
