MELION is a tokenized security that provides blockchain-based exposure to the total return of MercadoLibre, Inc. (MELI) shares. Each token is backed by the underlying equity held in regulated custodial accounts. It is designed to offer the same economic performance as the stock while functioning as a digital asset on the blockchain, allowing investors to hold a tokenized version of the Latin American e-commerce leader.

MELION functions as a total-return tracker. Instead of distributing cash dividends, any dividends issued by the underlying company are automatically reinvested to purchase more shares, which increases the value of the MELION token relative to the base stock. In the case of a stock split, the smart contract is updated to reflect the new share count, ensuring that token holders maintain their proportional economic interest.

Due to international securities laws, MELION is strictly available to non-U.S. individuals and institutions. To mint or redeem tokens directly through the official platform, users must complete a Know Your Customer (KYC) verification process. However, the tokens can be traded on certain secondary decentralized exchanges and specialized trading platforms by eligible users who meet the necessary compliance standards.

The ONDO token serves as the governance token for the protocol's decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), allowing holders to vote on protocol changes. It does not track stock prices. Conversely, MELION is the actual tokenized stock representing ownership interest in MercadoLibre shares. While ONDO manages the ecosystem, MELION provides direct exposure to the performance of the underlying equity.

Unlike traditional stock markets that operate during business hours, MELION can be traded 24/7 on the blockchain. It is primarily available through global market platforms and various decentralized exchanges across major blockchain networks. While there are typically no direct minting fees, users are responsible for blockchain network fees and any spreads or fees charged by secondary market providers.

The underlying shares are held by regulated custodial broker-dealers to ensure security and compliance. These assets are kept in a separate legal entity, often called a Special Purpose Vehicle, which makes them bankruptcy-remote. This legal structure protects token holders by ensuring the stocks backing the tokens remain isolated from the protocol provider’s corporate balance sheet.
