MASQ is a decentralized web3 privacy project that combines the characteristics of a virtual private network and mesh network technology. Often described as a decentralized mesh-VPN or dMeshVPN, it aims to provide an open and uncensored internet by allowing users to route their traffic through a global peer-to-peer network. Unlike traditional centralized services, MASQ does not rely on a single server provider; instead, it utilizes a community-driven mesh network where traffic is scrambled across multiple hops between nodes to enhance anonymity and bypass geographical restrictions. The MASQ token is the native utility token that fuels this ecosystem. It functions primarily as an incentive mechanism for the network. Users who share their spare internet bandwidth with others serve as nodes and earn tokens for their contribution. Conversely, users who want to browse privately and access the network's resources pay for that data using the token on a pay-as-you-go basis. This peer-to-peer exchange ensures that the network remains self-sustaining and distributed. Beyond simple data transactions, the token is used to secure the network against malicious activities and grants holders access to premium features within the ecosystem. The core of the project is the MASQ Browser, a privacy-centric application built on a Chromium foundation. It integrates web3 tools, decentralized application stores, and built-in wallet support. The browser is designed to block trackers and advertisements by default while providing a seamless interface for interacting with both traditional websites and decentralized web services. One of its standout features is Spaces, which allows users to organize their digital workspace and decentralized applications efficiently. A key focus of the project is user privacy and anonymity. MASQ does not collect personal information, require any identity verification through KYC processes, or log user activity. Because the data travels through multiple decentralized nodes, it is difficult for third parties to monitor or trace online behavior. This architecture makes it a tool for journalists, researchers, and individuals in regions with high levels of internet censorship.
