Keep Network is a software and Web3 project designed to enable the secure storage and usage of private data on public blockchains. It aims to address the inherent transparency of public blockchains, which can compromise the confidentiality of sensitive information. The network was founded in 2017 by Matt Luongo and Corbin Pon, with its mainnet launching on April 27, 2020. The core of the Keep Network involves "keeps," which are off-chain containers used to store private data. These keeps allow smart contracts to interact with and utilize pieces of this stored data without exposing it to the public blockchain. This is achieved through secure multi-party computation, which encrypts and protects the data. The native cryptocurrency of this network is KEEP. Individuals or entities wishing to operate a keep and contribute to the network must stake KEEP tokens. These "keep providers" are then randomly selected by the network to perform services such as encryption, computation, and data storage within the keeps. For their participation and successful maintenance of these keeps, providers are rewarded with additional KEEP tokens. The KEEP token also serves as a governance token, allowing holders to participate in network decisions. One of the significant applications built on the Keep Network is tBTC. This project acts as a decentralized bridge, allowing Bitcoin holders to utilize their BTC within the Ethereum decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem. Users deposit their Bitcoin and, in return, receive tBTC, an ERC-20 token that is fully backed by Bitcoin at a 1:1 ratio. The private keys to the deposited Bitcoin are securely stored within keeps, ensuring they are not exposed on the public blockchain.
