EEMon is a tokenized version of the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets ETF (EEM), developed as part of the Ondo Global Markets suite. It is designed to provide blockchain users with economic exposure to the underlying ETF. When the value of the traditional EEM ETF rises on the stock market, the value of the EEMon token is intended to increase accordingly. This allows traditional financial assets to become portable and tradeable 24/7 on-chain.

EEMon is primarily intended for non-U.S. retail and institutional investors. It is not available to U.S. persons or residents of restricted jurisdictions, such as China. To mint or redeem these tokens directly via the official platform, users must typically complete a Know Your Customer (KYC) verification process to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Unlike traditional ETFs that may distribute quarterly cash dividends, EEMon uses an auto-compounding structure. Dividends earned by the underlying shares are automatically reinvested to acquire more shares of the ETF. This reinvestment is reflected in the price of EEMon, which accounts for both the price appreciation of the underlying emerging market stocks and the value of the reinvested dividends.

EEMon is a tokenized equity/ETF and is not a stablecoin. It does not maintain a peg to a specific currency like the U.S. Dollar; instead, its price fluctuates according to the performance of the emerging markets stock index. While it is used in DeFi protocols for staking or as collateral—similar to how some stablecoins are utilized—its primary identity is a tokenized financial instrument.

Eligible users can mint and redeem EEMon tokens directly through the Ondo Global Markets primary market. For secondary market trading, the token is available on LBank and other specialized Real-World Asset (RWA) platforms. While it primarily operates on the Ethereum blockchain, the project is expanding its presence to other networks such as Solana and Sui.

EEMon is backed by underlying iShares ETF shares held by regulated, third-party custodians like Clearstream or Morgan Stanley. Transparency is maintained through regular reports and third-party verifications to ensure every token in circulation is backed by the corresponding underlying asset. Additionally, the tokens are issued by a 'bankruptcy remote' entity, which is structured to protect assets even if the parent company faces financial issues.
