IOTA Rebased is a significant protocol upgrade that transitions the network to a delegated Proof-of-Stake (dPoS) model. This transformation officially removes the centralized "Coordinator" node, achieving full decentralization. A key feature of this upgrade is the introduction of the Move Virtual Machine (MoveVM) for Layer 1 smart contracts, which enhances the network's ability to handle complex decentralized applications directly on the main ledger.
The official IOTA Rebased Mainnet is scheduled to launch on May 5, 2025. The primary goal of this upgrade is to finalize the network's transition to full decentralization.
