Geist fUSDT, also known as gUSDT, was designed as an interest-accruing token. It served as a representation of a Tether (USDT) deposit that users had placed within the Geist lending market. Essentially, holding gUSDT meant you had funds deposited and potentially earning yield within the Geist Finance protocol.
Geist Finance, the lending protocol where gUSDT was utilized, is no longer operational. The project officially announced its permanent shutdown in July 2023. This means the platform has ceased all activities, and its services, including lending and borrowing functions, are defunct.
The primary reason for Geist Finance's shutdown was the significant financial losses it incurred as a direct consequence of the Multichain exploit.
