Elk Finance is a peer-to-peer cross-chain value transfer protocol. Unlike many other protocols that use "wrapped" tokens, which can lead to liquidity fragmentation, Elk Finance utilizes ElkNet. In this system, ELK is the only token that actually moves across chains. This design ensures that value is transferred seamlessly without creating multiple versions of the same asset on different networks, simplifying the cross-chain experience for users while maintaining security and efficiency.

Elk Finance functions as both. It is a cross-chain liquidity network that integrates its own decentralized exchange (ElkDex) on every supported blockchain. Users can perform standard swaps on a single chain or use the DEXs to facilitate cross-chain transfers by swapping assets into ELK, which is then moved via ElkNet to the destination chain. This dual nature allows for efficient value movement and local liquidity management within the same ecosystem.

The ELK token has a fixed hard cap of 42,424,242 tokens to ensure scarcity. Beyond acting as the medium of exchange for cross-chain transfers, ELK is used for governance, allowing holders to vote on protocol changes. It is also used for staking to secure the network and serves as the "gas" for cross-chain value transfers through ElkNet. Furthermore, all liquidity pools on the platform are bonded to ELK to enable rapid cross-chain swaps.

This is a common concern usually caused by network congestion or gas price spikes on the destination chain rather than a loss of funds. ELK is never lost in transit. Users are advised to check the transaction status on the block explorer of both the source and destination chains. Often, simply waiting for the network to sync will resolve the issue. Adding the ELK contract address manually to your wallet on the destination chain is also a necessary step to see your tokens.

While users swap their assets into ELK to bridge across the network, ElkNet offers a specialized "Swap ELK for gas" feature. This solves the problem where a user arrives on a new chain but has no native tokens to pay for transaction fees. By selecting this option during the bridging process, a portion of the ELK being moved is automatically converted into the destination chain's native gas token, ensuring the user can immediately interact with the new network upon arrival.

Moose NFTs provide significant utility within the ecosystem, such as boosting farming rewards and granting developers access to specialized bridging services. Additionally, the platform offers Impermanent Loss Protection (ILP) for its liquidity providers. This mechanism is designed to compensate users if the value of ELK fluctuates significantly relative to its paired asset while staked in a farm. By mitigating the risks of providing liquidity, Elk Finance encourages long-term participation and stability within its liquidity pools.
