Dusty Protocol is a decentralized, over-collateralized stablecoin system. It maintains its stability through a mechanism where users deposit digital assets into smart contract vaults to back the issuance of the token. By ensuring that the total value of the collateral significantly exceeds the value of the issued tokens, the protocol creates a buffer against market volatility. This over-collateralization ensures that the token remains backed by tangible value within the ecosystem, providing a decentralized alternative to traditional stablecoins.

DUSTY is the standard liquid utility token used for transactions and liquidity within the protocol. In contrast, veDUSTY (vote-escrowed DUSTY) is a governance token obtained by locking liquid DUSTY tokens for a predetermined period. Holding veDUSTY provides users with voting power over protocol upgrades and allows them to earn a higher share of staking rewards. This system is designed to reward long-term supporters and decentralize the decision-making process of the Dusty Protocol.

Staking DUSTY involves risks inherent to DeFi, such as potential smart contract vulnerabilities. In the Dusty Protocol, tokens in the Stability Pool are used to absorb debt from under-collateralized positions. During a liquidation event, a portion of the staked DUSTY may be burned to offset the debt. In exchange, stakers receive a proportional share of the liquidated collateral, such as ETH or SOL. While this can result in acquiring assets at a discount, it also exposes stakers to the price fluctuations of the collateral assets received.

The Dusty memecoin is not an official project by Matt Furie. It is a community-driven initiative inspired by his "Boys Club" comic series, similar to other internet culture tokens like Pepe. The project typically operates as a Community Takeover (CTO), meaning the original developer has stepped away and the project's direction, social media presence, and marketing efforts are managed entirely by a dedicated group of community members and volunteers.

The Dusty memecoin often features a total supply of 420 trillion tokens, a nod to its meme origins.
