Curetopia is a Decentralized Science (DeSci) project established as a BioDAO, or Biotech Decentralized Autonomous Organization. Its core mission is to accelerate the discovery of treatments for rare diseases by utilizing blockchain technology to connect patient communities, researchers, and contributors. Unlike traditional pharmaceutical models, Curetopia allows the community to fund and govern medical research, ensuring that those directly affected by these conditions have a voice in the development of potential cures.

The $CURES token serves as the central utility and governance asset of the Curetopia ecosystem. Holders can participate in governance by voting on research proposals and the project’s long-term roadmap. Furthermore, the token provides control over the Intellectual Property (IP) generated from laboratory research. It is also used to reward community contributors who provide essential assets such as medical data, biospecimens, or computational resources to aid in the discovery process.

Curetopia employs a specialized "Yeast-Powered Drug Repurposing" strategy. This involves engineering yeast cells with specific human mutations to create "patient avatars." These avatars are then used to screen thousands of existing approved drugs to identify candidates that can successfully treat the condition. This approach is significantly faster and more cost-effective than traditional drug discovery. The project’s inaugural AARS2 initiative has already utilized this method to identify potential drug candidates for a fatal mitochondrial disease.

The project is led by Dr. Ethan Perlstein, a Harvard PhD and experienced biotech entrepreneur. Dr. Perlstein is well-known for his work with Perlara, a laboratory that pioneered the use of yeast-based models for drug repurposing. His deep expertise in rare disease research and innovation provides the scientific foundation for Curetopia, bridging the gap between decentralized community governance and high-level laboratory science.

Curetopia is structured as a Swiss "Verein," a non-profit association that provides a legal framework for its DAO operations under Swiss law. To manage the results of its scientific research, Curetopia utilizes on-chain assets known as IP-NFTs. This "Tokenized IP" allows the DAO to digitally own and manage patents and research data. If a discovery is commercialized, the resulting value flows back into the DAO treasury to sustain further research efforts.

The "Coin-to-Company" (C2C) model is Curetopia's strategy for long-term financial sustainability. Under this framework, the DAO aims to license its discovered treatments and intellectual property to larger biotechnology and pharmaceutical firms in exchange for royalties or milestone payments. This revenue is reinvested into the DAO treasury, allowing the community to continuously fund new research cycles for other rare diseases without relying solely on initial funding.
