Cult DAO is a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) that functions as a decentralized venture capital fund. Its primary mission is to fund and support Web3 projects that challenge centralized financial systems and promote the advancement of decentralization. By utilizing a community-governed treasury, the project aims to provide resources to technologies that seek to "break the chains" of traditional, centralized finance.
CULT is the ecosystem's liquid, tradable token used for transactions, with each trade contributing a 0.4% tax to the DAO treasury. dCULT is the "proof-of-stake" version of the token. Users receive dCULT by staking their CULT tokens. Holding dCULT is required for participating in governance, allowing users to vote on funding proposals and earn rewards distributed from the returns of projects funded by the DAO.
A 0.4% tax is collected on every buy and sell transaction of CULT. These funds accumulate in the DAO treasury until they reach a value equivalent to 15.5 ETH. Once this threshold is met, a funding event is triggered automatically: 13 ETH is allocated to a project approved by the community, while the remaining 2.5 ETH worth of CULT is permanently burned to reduce the total supply.
The governance model is designed to ensure decentralization and prevent corruption. 'The Guardians' are the top 50 dCULT holders who are responsible for submitting funding proposals to the DAO; however, they are strictly forbidden from voting on them. 'The Many' includes all other dCULT holders who are not in the top 50. They hold the exclusive right to vote on whether a proposal is approved or rejected.
CULT employs a dual-burn mechanism to consistently reduce its circulating supply. First, a portion of the tokens is burned every time the treasury triggers a funding event for a new project. Second, when funded projects return capital to the DAO, 50% of the returned CULT is burned, while the other 50% is redistributed to dCULT stakers. This ensures that the supply is constantly decreasing as the ecosystem grows.
To be eligible for funding, project proposals must align with the DAO's core principles of decentralization. Specifically, proposals must demonstrate that they fight against centralization, further the cause of decentralization, and provide a direct benefit to a noble cause. These requirements ensure that the DAO's resources are dedicated to initiatives that support the broader mission of financial sovereignty and Web3 innovation.
