Cortex (CX) is an innovative blockchain project designed to integrate artificial intelligence capabilities into the decentralized space. It was launched as the first blockchain platform capable of executing AI algorithms on-chain, aiming to bring intelligent decentralized applications to fruition. Cortex seeks to enable AI agents to interact with blockchain networks using natural language processing, simplifying complex blockchain operations through conversational prompts rather than technical interfaces.

The Cortex network operates using a unique consensus mechanism that allows for the execution of AI models within a decentralized environment. It utilizes a modified version of the proof-of-work (PoW) consensus algorithm called "Cuckoo Cycle". The platform includes the Cortex Virtual Machine (CVM), specifically designed to execute AI models. Developers can upload machine learning models to the Cortex blockchain, which smart contracts can then directly call upon, enabling AI-driven decision-making within decentralized applications.

The platform's architecture consists of two main parts: the Cortex Agent and the Agent Platform. The Cortex Agent functions as a generalized trading assistant that can perform operations like cross-chain bridging, token swaps, and yield farming based on user instructions. The Agent Platform provides infrastructure for developers to deploy specialized AI agents with specific functionalities, such as automated yield optimization or trading strategy execution.

The CX token serves several important functions within the Cortex ecosystem. It is used to pay for network transaction fees and access AI inference capabilities. Developers must stake CX to upload AI models. Holders can participate in governance for protocol decisions. In the future, CX will be the utility token for AI agents, covering gas fees and enabling gated access to features, including a staged rollout for the Cortex Trading agent. Staking also provides enhanced capabilities.

Staking CX involves depositing tokens into a Stability Pool, which allows users to receive two distinct reward streams: a pro-rata share of discounted CX collateral from liquidated vaults, and a continuous stream of CX token emissions. Beyond these financial incentives, staking also enables participation in governance decisions, allowing holders to influence protocol upgrades and changes, and earns rewards for contributing to network security and operations.

Cortex aims to place advanced artificial intelligence systems on the blockchain, with a long-term goal of creating "artificial general intelligence" (AGI) on the Cortex platform. The project envisions a future where AI agents are the primary way to interact with blockchains. This evolution is expected to transition from human-directed agents to autonomous agents, capable of operating with their own objective functions, furthering decentralization and AI integration.
