cousdc is a yield-bearing "receipt token" representing a share in a curated lending vault on the Base network. It is not a new stablecoin, but rather a financial product managed by Clearstar Labs in collaboration with OpenEden. When users deposit USDC into the designated vault, they receive cousdc tokens in return, which track their portion of the total pool and any interest accrued through lending activities.
Unlike traditional stablecoins pegged to a specific currency, cousdc is designed as a yield-bearing asset. Its value represents a "unit share" of the vault’s underlying assets. As the vault generates interest from various lending strategies, the value of each cousdc token increases relative to USDC. The unit value is a result of the vault's internal accounting and does not indicate a loss of peg, but rather the accumulation of yield.
The vault generates returns through strategic on-chain lending. It lends deposited USDC to borrowers who provide collateral through secure decentralized protocols. A significant portion of the yield is derived from Real-World Asset (RWA) integration, utilizing tokenized US Treasuries and other institutional-grade yield-bearing instruments provided by OpenEden. This allows holders to benefit from a blend of traditional finance returns and decentralized lending interest.
Security is managed through a multi-layered approach involving rigorous curation and real-time monitoring. Clearstar Labs acts as the curator, performing extensive due diligence on every lending market within the vault. The project utilizes institutional-grade security infrastructure and automated on-chain risk monitoring services. Furthermore, the underlying technology is built on highly audited decentralized lending primitives designed to maximize safety and minimize smart contract risks.
The two entities serve distinct but complementary roles in managing the asset. Clearstar Labs functions as the Risk Manager and Curator, overseeing the vault’s composition and deciding which markets to allocate capital toward based on risk assessments. OpenEden acts as the Strategy Partner, providing the specialized tokenized treasury products and RWA-backed assets that serve as the primary yield-generating components within the vault.
Users can obtain cousdc by depositing USDC directly into the curated vault via supported decentralized finance interfaces. Additionally, the token can be traded on digital asset trading platforms like LBank and various decentralized exchanges on the Base network. To exit a position, users can either redeem their USDC through the primary vault interface or trade their tokens on supported secondary markets.
