Arbitrum Bridged wstETH, often referred to as wstETH on Arbitrum, is a version of Lido's liquid staking token, stETH, that has been moved to the Arbitrum network. wstETH stands for Wrapped Staked Ethereum. Its primary purpose is to allow users to engage with their staked Ethereum in the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem on Arbitrum, which offers benefits like lower transaction fees and faster transaction speeds compared to the Ethereum mainnet. When users stake Ethereum (ETH) with Lido, they receive stETH. This stETH token continuously accrues staking rewards. However, stETH is a "rebasing" token, meaning its balance changes over time to reflect these rewards. Many blockchain bridges and DeFi protocols are not compatible with rebasing tokens. To address this, stETH can be "wrapped" into wstETH. wstETH is a non-rebasing version, meaning its balance remains constant, and the accumulated rewards are reflected in the increasing value of the token itself, rather than a change in the token quantity held. This makes wstETH more suitable for use in various DeFi applications and for bridging across different blockchain networks. To use wstETH on Arbitrum, users typically bridge their wstETH from the Ethereum mainnet to Arbitrum using a bridge such as the Arbitrum Bridge. This process usually involves connecting a crypto wallet, selecting wstETH, specifying the amount, and confirming transactions on both the Ethereum network and Arbitrum. Users will need some ETH on Arbitrum to cover gas fees for transactions on the Arbitrum network. Once on Arbitrum, wstETH can be utilized in various DeFi protocols. For example, it can be used as collateral in lending platforms, or provided as liquidity in decentralized exchanges like Ramses Exchange, often paired with other liquid staking tokens.
