ApeSwap is a decentralized exchange (DEX), automated market maker (AMM), yield farming, and staking platform. It utilizes blockchain technology to facilitate financial transactions across BNB Chain, Polygon, and Ethereum, aiming for security, speed, and low fees. As an AMM, it allows users to swap over 150 tokens. Users can provide liquidity to trading pairs, receive LP tokens, and then stake these in yield farms to earn BANANA tokens and a share of trading fees.

ApeSwap uses a dual-token system. BANANA is the primary utility token, earned by providing liquidity, staking, or yield farming. It incentivizes liquidity providers and can be used for various platform activities, including acquiring GNANA. GNANA (Golden Banana) is the governance token for loyal community members, allowing holders to participate in decision-making, benefit from passive farming, and access exclusive pools and Initial Ape Offerings (IAOs). GNANA is exclusively obtained by exchanging BANANA on ApeSwap.

ApeSwap provides a comprehensive suite of DeFi tools. Key features include token swapping for various cryptocurrencies, liquidity provision to earn LP tokens and trading fees, yield farming by staking LP tokens for BANANA, and staking pools for BANANA or GNANA rewards. It also offers decentralized lending and borrowing, participation in Initial Ape Offerings (IAOs) for new projects, Treasury Bills (NFTs for discounted tokens), and auto-compounding vaults to maximize farming yields.

A significant controversy involved a token migration strategy from BANANA to ApeBond in December 2023. A short two-month migration window for BANANA holders to exchange their tokens for the new ApeBond token reportedly led to a drastic drop in BANANA's value. This left long-term investors who missed the window with significantly devalued assets. The project faced accusations of manipulating supply to inflate the new coin and controlling social media channels during this period.
