Aave v3 stMATIC (astMATIC) is Aave v3's unique representation of Lido's staked MATIC (stMATIC) on the Polygon network. It functions as a liquid staking token. When users deposit their stMATIC into the Aave V3 protocol, they receive astMATIC in return. This token is yield-bearing, meaning its value grows over time as it earns interest from borrowing activities within the Aave V3 lending pools. It essentially provides a way to interact with staked MATIC within the Aave ecosystem.

Within the Aave protocol, astMATIC functions as an interest-bearing ERC-20 token, issued to users who supply stMATIC. As a non-custodial liquidity protocol, Aave enables users to both supply assets and borrow. The balance of astMATIC held by a supplier increases over time due to accrued interest from borrowing activity in the pool. Additionally, astMATIC can be used as collateral. This allows users to borrow other crypto assets against their supplied astMATIC, enhancing capital efficiency. Aave V3's E-Mode feature further allows for higher borrowing power when collateral and borrowed assets are highly correlated.
