Meta now offers some creators the option of receiving their payouts in USDC, according to a support page. (USDC) payments can be made to crypto wallets on either Solana or Polygon.
"In the event of technical difficulties or unforeseen circumstances, Meta reserves the right to pay you using another payment method that you designate," according to Meta. "As with all payment methods, you are responsible for the security of your account information, including your wallet credentials."
Meta suggests a host of popular wallet creators can be used, including MetaMask, Phantom, and Binance. Earlier this year, Meta was "aiming to enter the stablecoin space later this year" with the help of third-party firms.
Meta will use Stripe as its payments provider.
"Because stablecoin payments involve digital assets, you may also receive specific crypto-related reporting directly from Stripe," the firm said. "We recommend keeping both your Meta payment history and your Stripe records for your tax filings."
The company is arguably the most successful social media empire in the world, with billions of users on Facebook and Instagram, in addition to the messaging platform WhatsApp. Meta had an internal digital assets payment division called Libra. The group later rebranded as Diem before eventually being shuttered amid heightened regulatory scrutiny for crypto-based projects.
"Only use a wallet address that accepts USDC on Solana or Polygon. Funds sent to an unsupported address or network cannot be recovered," Meta said Wednesday. The company provides instructions for creators to then convert the USDC into their local currency.
